WHAT TO EXPECT
DAY OF TOUR
you will head down to our office at check-in time here at Port Allen Marina Center. Our reservation staff will get you ready to depart. Make sure you have everything you need. If you forgot anything we have plenty of options in our retail store.
will brief you on the adventure you are about to embark on and escort you to our company van which takes you to the harbor where your Captain and vessel will be waiting. Your Captain will go over the current weather conditions, the plan for the day, tell you all about your vessel and answer any questions before you depart.
ONCE YOU’RE UNDERWAY
your Captain will head offshore. This tour is featured in the hight of whale season and it is a favorite among wildlife enthusiasts. The crew will have their binoculars and you are welcome to purchase your own or rent a pair from our retail store. The hunt to find a whale will begin. Some days you won’t make it far offshore as you will feel surrounded by the gentle giants and captivated by their acrobatic show. Other days it takes most of the tour to find a whale, but once we do, it becomes all worthwhile.
is where ever the whales may be, there is no set destination for this tour. The humpback whales are here to have their babies so we are quite lucky to be on the leeward side of the island. The swell and wind tend to get quite big on the Northeast side of the Hawaiian Islands in the winter season.
ONCE WE FIND A WHALE
the Captain will come to a halt and float peacefully nearby as you wait for a show. Our rafts are equipped with hydrophones that allow us to stick a microphone into the water and listen to the whale songs echoing all around. As you sit listening to hear the songs make sure to keep an eye out on the horizon as one may breach at any time. Fruit, chips, and drinks will be provided by your crew. Breaching occurs when a whale picks up speed near the water and then lifts its body and leaps out of the water exposing up to 90% of its body above the surface. During breaching the whale may land on its side or back, which often creates a huge splash upon landing. Another common performance the humpback whales are known for is Tail Slaps. A tail slap consists of a whale raising its tail flukes out of the water and slapping them forcefully on the surface of the water. When the flukes hit the water, loud resonant noise can be heard for miles. Humpback whales are known to repeat this behavior over and over.
AFTER AN AMAZING DAY ON THE WATER
the ride home will be complemented by the continued beautiful scenery of the Kauai Coast.
The whole team here at Kauai Sea Tours is dedicated to making sure your experience with us is the best possible. We like to thank all the hands that go into making this tour happen every day. We are so excited to have you join us and look forward to meeting you!
